Recently, I went into a corner shop to take something chilled after a very long wardround session on a hot afternoon.

That particular shop is my favorite spot for chilling and the lady who stays there knows my favorite afternoon meal . . . Hollandia Yoghurt and Dukpe’s hot okpa 😁

Well, if you have not tasted that combo, you really need to give your life to Christ! 😂

So . . . On this particular day, I decided to do something different
.
.
I asked her for a chilled plastic bottle of Fanta, which she gently fished out from the bottom of the deep freezer and then waited for my next instruction . . .
.
.
I think she had a very good grasp of ‘science’ and had figured out that ‘for every liquid, there must be a solid to balance the equation’.
.
.
Well, I totally disappointed her when I told her to give me biscuits . . .
.
.
She paused and then asked me ‘Why not take it with bread’ (and damn! her loaves are the best in the whole Benue State 😂)

.
Well . . . I asked her why and guess what she said? . . . BREAD AND FANTA NORMALLY GO TOGETHER’.
.
.
That’s when the hairs on my body rose up like I was just challenged by Anthony Joshua and I roared ‘WHO TOLD YOU???’

.
.
Wait first! Relax! It didn’t happen like you just imagined though 😂 . . . but meeehn! I was pissed.
.
.
Then I simply told her to package my ‘kaya’ and then I paid her and left.
.
.
On my way home, I began to really think deeply into what she said.

.
.
I mean, who told her that Fanta should always go with bread?
.
.
Then I answered myself . . .
.
.
Probably it is same person that has told us that akara must go with bread?
.
.
The same person that must have told us that when a lady is not married before 25, that it is late?
.
.
.
Or maybe it is just the same person that told us a man should have a house of his own before he is 30?
.
.
.
Well, probabilities are that it is the same person that has told us that having a 9 to 5 job makes you a failure, even when that’s what satisfies your soul?
Oooooh Yes! That must be the same person!

.
Who even made these laws????

.
Who the hell made these laws???
Oooh Yes! I know who . . . his name is SOCIETY!
The same person who pressures the promising young man into commiting suicide because ‘his mates’ have a car and he doesn’t!

.
And you still think this person is worth your allegiance even when the sanctity of your soul is the bargain?
.
.
Hmmm! these subtle pressure placed on us by unknown group of people who anonymously came together to agree that Fanta must go with bread and that you being single at 35 is a taboo . . . and slowly we unconsciously adopt these mindsets as normal and it begins to rule your decisions.
.
.
Well, I’ll end this piece here with a simple advice . . .
When next you feel pressured to do something that violates your own peace of mind and sanctity just because the society accepts it as the right thing . . . pause and ask yourself ‘WHO EVEN MADE THESE LAWS?’
If the answer is SOCIETY, then you are totally free to either favour your peace of mind OR you can go ahead ahead and reinforce this anonymous laws with your actions but . . . be sure you wholly accept the responsibilities for the outcome of any action you decide to take!
LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO BE SPENT OBEYING ANONYMOUS LAWS THAT HAVE NO BEARING TOWARDS YOUR DESTINY!
